Perhaps no technology since the invention of the digital camera has changed architectural and commercial property photography as much as the drone has done.
Using drones has become an integral part of my work, both for photography and for video production. drones enable wider shots to be taken, giving a view over neighbouring buildings and showing the surroundings and skylines in a way most viewers will never have seen them before.
I am a registered drone pilot with the CAA and am fully insured to carry out commercial drone work
Over the last decade commercially-available drones have become far smaller, lighter and more sophisticated. These changes have been reflected in changes to the UK laws, administered by the Civil Aviation Authority, regarding where they can be flown.
While larger, heavier drones are still subject to far more stringent restrictions, the newer smaller drones weighing under 250 grams have very few restrictions regarding their use. These changes have opened up possibilities for using drones for property photography, even in busy residential and industrial areas.
Prior to every shoot I am check with with the Civil Aviation Authority to see whether there are any flight restrictions in the area.
I have flown my drone in countless towns and cities across the UK. Hundreds of hours of flying and filming have allowed me to develop both my skills as a pilot and my understanding of which shots, camera movements and angles are most effective for aerial photography and videography.
